For our nation? For your community? For your family? For you? Do you know? Are you sure?
When I was younger, l had a plan. I knew what to do the next day, the next year. I knew what was best! I fought to enact my plan. I this, I that. I, I, I.
And I failed.
And it hurt.
God had to let me fail, because it was all I. It was my plan, not His. If I had succeeded under my power to implement my plan for my definition of success, He would have lost me. Why would I need God’s plan if mine worked out just as well? God loved me too much to remain so deceived to think that I knew best. He saved me, by letting my plans fail.
Ever since that fateful day in the garden, man has been seeking his own way. Man has been seeking to be like God, to make our own reality, our own path. The world screams at our kids to “choose your path and make it happen”, “you can do anything!”. LIES straight from the serpents mouth and the pit of hell. These phrases are no more than rewording the age old “you can be like God! Choose your own way”
No, our prayer is “Your will be done.” Not ours, but God’s. We dare not ever pray that our will be done and then walk out to “do our own thing”. We must walk each day seeking what is HIS path? We must die to self and live solely for His will.
If that seems harsh, difficult, extreme… Then I propose that we have not even begun the Christian journey yet! It starts at putting down our hopes and dreams, our plans, and asking God, “what is YOUR plan for me today?”. “Your will be done”. It’s not just words, those are words that when honored transform our very being! Lives are changed when the path is handed to the Father. Success comes when we seek His path, not ours.
Jesus’ message to young and old is the same, just stop struggling to find yourself and your path. It’s pointless. Find God’s path for you. His personal life plan for you. He has it written, holds it out to you now. Do you want it? Will you set all else aside and walk His path?
That is success…
Thy kingdom comes when thy will is done.
